Brooch Marathon

Hi everyone, I know its been a gazillion days since I last posted. Activity level has been high and I kept waiting for things to slow down a bit so I could update the blog...Alas that never happened...or is yet to happen; so I'll just take it one day at a time and maybe one day in the not too far future I'll catch up with my line-up of posts.

So first post for today...brooches! Lots of brooches.

Brooches glam up an outfit, add a splash of color to an otherwise dull ensemble and in some cases can serve as an identifier when worn by a group of people. They are cute and bright...but after making over 100 of them over a cumulative three day period, I can think of some other words to describe them...words I will desist from speaking out loud. lols

Anyways, here are a few pictures I took of the brooches before delivering them.

A Rose with leafs

Lace Bow

Kind of a Bow

A Flower

And More

All packaged and ready for delivery.

Apologies for the sideways pictures. My laptop seems to have a mind of its own today.

I hope I don't get to use my glue gun anytime too soon because my fingers need some time to recover from the burns. whew!

Nonetheless this was an interesting experience, I learnt a bit more patience, and got a sneak preview into the world of "manufacturing" (term used lightly) and assembly line processing.

Until next time, stay blessed.

Love, Preye

Sewing Update: Checkered

Happy New Year!

And welcome to 2014...Our year of unusual strength.

I am not much into resolutions but as far as targets go, I have loads of them and I'll get into them in a bit.

But before that; a proper wrap up of 2013. I have quite a line up of projects I haven't posted from last year so I'll get right into them.

First off, The checkered dress!

I made this dress the week of Christmas..the Saturday before Christmas I think. I actually started out the day with a project for myself but the client (who was very persistent) wanted her dress and wanted it NOW. Since she was a first time customer I decided to oblige and leave the twenty-something other pending projects originally scheduled before hers.

She is pretty conservative so the target for this project was to create a style out of the two fabrics she provided that would still stay true to her tastes. We had the basics down as she wanted pleats...so I decided to play around a bit and eventually ended up with the checkered details...and I knew I had struck gold :D

I started out with the belt detail then had a little glitch with the original sleeve I inserted which resulted in my having to redo the sleeves. So I figured the patchwork could make it to the sleeves as well. At the last minute, I decided on the Tulip variation for some added pizzazz.

I also piped the bottom of the dress with the black fabric...all in the little details people.

Here is a close up of the belt.

This project took a lot longer than expected but turned out great. And save a slight issue with depth of the back neckline; the client loved the dress.

Sadly, my dress which I had planned on making that faithful Saturday lies there unfinished and awaiting the day I'll have a break from sewing for others :D

Until next time, God bless you.

Love, Preye.

Wedding Dress Update

The day is here. Today, the client will be picking up her dress along with the bridal party dresses and all appendages. She came in for a fitting last night and I had to make some changes to the dress.

I also completed the veil last week and she loved it. Here are some pictures.

I decided on a clip instead of the conventional comb

Details
I started out with this layered look but settled on the equal length later on

Neatly Packed for the bride

Blurry Picture but this was the only picture that showed the veil length.
And here's a sneak of the dress...just construction pictures though. I'll do a full post after the wedding

I cant wait for the wedding day when I'll see the bride fully dressed and can proudly say, "I made that" :D

I seriously feel like dancing...my very first wedding dress. This is no mean feat considering I started fashion school in February so you can understand my excitement and nervous anticipation.

Until next time, God bless you.

Love,
Preye.

Quick and Cute: Pen Purse

I love pens...pens of different shapes and sizes; cheap ones, expensive ones...free ones given at exhibitions, conferences and the likes...the cute ones, the not-so-cute ones, highlighters, markers, pencils...colored pens, gel pens, ink pens, glitter pens...and the list goes on and on. I am that gal that always has a spare pen in church, or at the bank :D

So two days ago, I decided to switch bags (I avoid doing this as much as possible - I really do need to sew up one of those movable bag liner//pocket thingy's to make bag switching less stressful), and I was appalled at the dismal condition of my precious pens. While I have a pouch for my "stay-at-home" pens (I know, that sounds weird...lols), I had never really given much thought to keeping the mobile ones "organised". So I decided to make a Pen Purse before heading out.

This was a very quick project (much quicker than the time it took me to type this up) and took a little over ten minutes from start to finish.

I used a little piece of the same red leather I used for this purse last month and added a matching red zipper.

After fitting in my pens, I still had enough space to fit my pack of post-it-notes. Double yay for me :D

After completing this mini project, I got inspired to make a card holder, a much needed make-up purse, and an "unmentionables" holder.

I'll update with some pictures when I'm done with them. Now I'd better get back to serious sewing :D.

Until next time, God bless you.

Love, Preye.

Smart Peplum

Hello everyone and welcome to a new week.

I finally completed the second  peplum outfit at about 6pm last night. I was very pleased with the outcome.

And from the smile on her face, sure you can tell she was also pleased. :D

I had to make some slight modifications (unavoidably) on the style she chose so I was a little nervous about her reaction. Turns out I had no reason to be worried as she liked the changes.

I tried to take some pictures of the details but these were taken at night so pardon the graininess.

Sleeve detail.

Remember the notions pictured in the last post? She finally chose the lighter set.

One of the modifications- Off center pleats instead of gathers all around

A little Bedazzling (We were pressed for time so had to settle for just a little-for now :)

And finally a belt to cinch in the waist.

The skirt was a simple smart skirt, although it ended up looking like a pencil skirt after I made some modifications at her request. I think it looks better this way.

So that's one down and 1,2,3,4,5...too many to go. lols. I have a full week ahead of me as I've got three "Asoebi" dresses for a wedding coming up on Saturday and I also have to make an outfit for myself (Which I don't get to do as often as I want these days).

Do have a great week.

Much Love,

Preye

Throwback Pictures: Hair Accessories

About a year ago I took a little one day course on accessories making. It was a fun experience and I spent the next few days shopping for the tools and materials needed.
I do love shopping and cant miss an excuse to go on a shopping spree :D.

So while going through my pictures folder yesterday, I came across some pictures of the results of that experience.

 Hair Bands

That Rose right there; I was (and am still) proud of that.  I watched a youtube how-to and took a shot and it turned out pretty good (if I say so myself).

I never got to wear any of them though and ended up gifting quite a few and storing up the rest (probably for more gifting later).

Who knows, I may decide to do it commercially sometime in the future...I sure am glad to have acquired a new skill that faithful Saturday in January.

Much Love,

Preye
